BEST CLEANERS KICKS OFF 10TH YEAR OF COATS FOR CONNECTICUT CAMPAIGN

Coat Donations Being Collected, Cleaned and Delivered Through December

Middletown, CT – Ten years ago when Best Cleaners held its first Coats For Connecticut collection, the family-owned and operated drycleaning chain was excited to announce that 2,000 donated coats had been promptly cleaned and delivered to local Salvation Army centers during the months of November, December and January. This year, as the 10th annual COATS FOR CONNECTICUT kicks off, the goal is to meet, if not exceed, last year’s tally of 18,298 coats. Confidence in achieving that goal is high given the overwhelming generosity of the community at large to donate coats and the efforts of Best’s campaign partners to get the word out about the need and to get the coats out into the hands of those in need.

This year’s campaign starts on November 8 and ends on December 22 at Best Cleaners locations in Berlin, Bristol, Canton, Farmington, Glastonbury, Middletown, North Haven, Plainville, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, and Windsor. Gently-used winter coats and jackets for all ages and in all sizes are needed, especially children’s coats. It’s an easy way to make a big difference in someone's life today - simply clean out your closets and drop off those outgrown and no longer worn coats and jackets at any Best location. All donated coats are cleaned for free and delivered weekly to Salvation Army centers in Bridgeport, Bristol, Hartford, Meriden, Middletown, New Britain, New Haven, New London and Waterbury for distribution to individuals and families in need.

In addition to the Salvation Army, Coats For Connecticut campaign partners include Eyewitness News WFSB-TV3, Young’s Printing/Fast Signs, and Two Men And A Truck. Their support of the campaign continues to increase awareness of the growing need in the community and the relative ease of donating to the program. Donations from schools, churches, and businesses conducting their own coat drives have also grown and have been a big factor in helping keep Connecticut warm. Since the campaign’s inception in 2008, more than 92,000 coats have been collected, cleaned and delivered. The real appeal of the program is that people can donate freely without having to incur the expense or time to have items cleaned and delivered, while the Salvation Army’s staff time for taking in and distributing the donations is greatly reduced. Ultimately, more coats get to more people, more quickly.
