Your gently used items will be sold through our Family Stores (formerly known as Thrift Stores). Because our Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARCs) are funded entirely by the proceeds, you can be sure your donated goods will end up providing physical, spiritual, and emotional support for program participants.

When you donate to one of our Family Stores, the men and women participating in the ARCs are directly affected. They are provided with a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction, and numerous resources to help them develop life skills and a personal relationship with God.

All in-kind donations that are received at The Salvation Army Family Stores are turned into liquid assets to further the ministry of the Adult Rehabilitation Center and other Salvation Army missions in the US and around the world. There are also times when donated items are given directly to those in need, as restricted by the donor, during a disaster or tragedy.

Not only do participants of the ARC benefit from your donation, but you can benefit by claiming the donation as a deduction on your income taxes. Specifically, there are two ways to get a receipt:

  • If you drop off a donation at a local Family Store of The Salvation Army, the clerk or receptionist will provide you with a receipt.
  • If you have your donations picked up, the truck driver will provide you with a receipt.

Your neighbors and community benefit too. Your local Salvation Army Family Store is full of great values and bargain prices on clothing, furniture, household goods, sporting equipment, books, electronics, and much more.
