Extending Salvation Army Service Through a Network of Dedicated Volunteers
The Salvation Army provides services to every zip code in Connecticut and Rhode Island and works diligently to fulfill its promise of "Doing the Most Good," for the most people, in the most need. The basic operating unit of The Salvation Army is the Corps Community Center. However, in areas that do not have a physical location such as a Corps, The Salvation Army’s Service Extension program helps to ensure that needs are still met.
The Salvation Army’s Service Units are made possible by working with volunteer committees, consisting of local citizens, to identify and meet community needs, and to network with statewide Salvation Army programs. Volunteers receive specialized training to prepare them to work collaboratively with local agencies to utilize funding entrusted to them by The Salvation Army and assist others in need in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
Services range from providing for basic needs like food, clothing, rent and utility assistance to sending children to summer camp at The Salvation Army’s Camp CONNRI. Through such partnerships, Service Units can refer those in need to local community programs that offer shelter, medical and dental assistance, or counseling. Clients also receive seasonal assistance from special back-to-school and Christmas partner programs. These Service Units provide individual and emergency services in accordance with local needs and resources available. The contribution made by committed volunteers of our Service Units is critical to the communities they serve and directly makes an impact on those in need.
We are always looking for volunteers!
