Salvation Army Emergency Services Respond to Bridgeport Train Crash

BRIDGEPORT- A crash in Bridgeport between two Metro-North Commuter trains occurred around 6:10 PM Friday, during evening rush hour. More than 70 people were injured as the trains tore up over 2,000 feet of track. The Bridgeport Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team arrived at the crash site and began immediately serving first responders, Metro-North crews, and federal investigators through 1:00 AM.

A dedicated Salvation Army volunteer slept in the canteen Friday so he could begin serving Starbucks pastries, coffee, and bottled water at 7:00 AM Saturday morning. Major Lydia Pearson, Bridgeport Corps Officer, was busy preparing lunch and dinner so that the canteen could continue to serve the emergency workers. She commented how “Weekly donations from Starbucks, Chipotle, and KFC allow us to provide food for a variety of situations, whether feeding the homeless who come to our building or for first responders at a disaster."

Amtrak hopes to restore service by Wednesday morning.
