with a very familiar voice, receives special recognition!

HARTFORD - When the telephone rings at The Salvation Army’s Southern New England (SNE) Divisional Headquarters, there is a very familiar sound to the voice on this end of the line. It's retired officer, Major Lorena Jackson, or Jackie, as she is known throughout most of Connecticut and Rhode Island, unless it's Tuesday, when she is busy leading Primetimers, a senior group in Manchester, and aiding in other Army capacities. Although she retired nine years ago, she continues to serve – answering the phone at SNE Divisional Headquarters and warmly receiving everyone who enters the building.

Major Jackie was recently honored by the Officers and staff at Divisional Headquarters by having the entrance to CONNRI Lodge dedicated to her - Major Lorena "Jackie" Jackson, and Major Phyllis Bressler. She was presented with large plaque dated May 19, 2014, which reads: The entrance to this facility is dedicated this day to honor Major Lorena “Jackie” Jackson and Major Phyllis Bressler, who shared their love of Christ so beautifully with all who have entered through these doors.

Divisional Commander, Major Dave Champlin, said, "We are delighted to honor Majors Jackson and Bressler in this way. The impact that these two women had on so many people is truly inspirational. Their selfless service, given in true humility, has provided a wonderful, visual example of Christ's love. We are so proud of both the Majors."

Jim Gordon, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, commented, "It's always amazing when I'm traveling around the Division to attend meetings and events and Major Jackson's name somehow enters into the conversation. Everyone has a great story about her and how she helped them or someone in the community when she was assigned to their city or town. I am always pleased to be able to say… Major Jackson is a good friend of mine too and of course she's still working!"

Major Jackson completed Officer Training School and began her career as a newly commissioned Lieutenant in Ansonia in 1962. She has since served appointments in Willimantic, New London, Newport, Hartford Temple, Bristol, New Britain, CONNRI Lodge, and Older Adult Ministries. Major Jackson and Major Phyllis Bressler teamed up in Newport in 1971 and served together until Major Bressler's Promotion to Glory in 2001.

If you get an opportunity to stop by or call and say hello, thank you, and congratulations to "Jackie" at the front desk at DHQ (860-702-0000), or visit CONNRI Lodge and see the impressive plaque hanging in the lobby dedicated to two wonderful women, we hope that you will!
