BEST CLEANERS’ COAT DRIVE AIDS PUERTO RICO REFUGEES Kicks Off 9th Annual Coats For Connecticut Collection Campaign

Middletown, CT – Best Cleaners kicked off its 9th annual COATS FOR CONNECTICUT campaign on November 9, collecting, cleaning and delivered over 2249 donated coats to Salvation Army centers throughout the state in the first week of the eight-week program. Prior to the official campaign start, the family-owned dry-cleaning company had already delivered a few hundred winter coats to The Salvation Army to help an influx of flood victims from Puerto Rico. Hundreds have arrived in Connecticut seeking a safe haven from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. Salvation Army centers are experiencing a higher than usual demand for winter coats, jackets, and apparel, especially in children's sizes, and anticipate that the need will continue to grow as the temperature continues to drop.

Given the increased need, this year’s campaign goal is to hit 20,000 coats, exceeding last year’s record breaking number of 18,168. The general public and local groups conducting their own coat drive can drop off gently-used winter coats at any of Best’s 12 locations now through January 6. It’s an easy way to make a big difference in someone's life today - simply clean out your closets and put those outgrown and no longer worn coats and jackets to good use.

All donated coats are cleaned for free and delivered weekly to Salvation Army centers in Bridgeport, Bristol, Hartford, Meriden, Middletown, New Britain, New Haven, New London and Waterbury for distribution to individuals and families in need. In addition to the Salvation Army, COATS FOR CONNECTICUT campaign partners include Eyewitness News WFSB-TV3, Young’s Printing/Fast Signs, and Gorilla Graphics. Their support of the campaign continues to increase awareness of the growing need in the community and the relative ease of donating to the program. Donations from schools, churches and businesses conducting their own coat drives also continue to grow and have been a big factor in helping keep Connecticut warm throughout the winter months. Since the campaign’s inception in 2008, more than 76,000 coats have been collected, cleaned and delivered.
