NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - We all recognize The Salvation Army with their Red Kettle Campaign during Christmas. But year-round, in fact daily, they are helping people in need.

This week recognizes just that with National Salvation Army Week, May 13th - 17th. The Salvation Army is celebrating 135 years of service in Greater New Haven.

Captain Charles Adams, commanding officer of The Salvation Army in New Haven, explains all the other social services The Salvation Army provides to the community such as the food pantry, utility assistance, Bible studies, and summer camp opportunities for children in need at The Salvation Army's Camp CONNRI in Ashford, CT.

It also has a Pathway of Hope Initiative where families are given intensive case management and services to help break the cycle of poverty. The second graduation will be held in June this year.

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services is always on the front lines of relief in times of need around the country and world.
