An Easter Story Changes a Camper’s Life

Anthony could sometimes act out. At least that’s what Marilyn, a counselor at our Camp CONNRI, had been told. But she saw in the young boy a big heart with limitless potential.

“When I met Anthony and started speaking to him, I realized he was the sweetest kid with the kindest heart,” she says. “His smiles were so genuine because he didn’t smile often but when he did, his whole face lit up.”

Still, Marilyn knew that deep down Anthony had struggles. That was not a surprise, as many children who come to camp are dealing with various problems and issues. But Marilyn couldn’t help but feel a soft spot for Anthony. And she made it her mission to show him God’s love.

One day, during the middle of the week, the campers experienced “Jesus Theater,” a production depicting Bible stories beginning with Adam and Eve and working up through the Easter story. When it was over, Anthony decided he wanted to live his life like Jesus. He turned to Marilyn, with tears in his eyes, and said, “This is the best decision I have ever made in my whole life. I feel peaceful.”

For vulnerable children like Anthony, camp is much more than fun in the outdoors. It is a place of peace, a place of healing, and a place where lives are changed. Thank you for blessing them with an incredible experience they will never forget!

When you support The Salvation Army, you help in so many ways and are a blessing to so many children and families.
